Riding City Bus May Be Free By End Of Year.

By RomeNewswire • on September 28, 2006

Riding a City bus may be free by the end of the year.

According to Transit Director kathy Shealy, The department is looking at making Rome’s city bus routes free to increase ridership.

The Transit department does a customer appreciation day every year and according to Shealy, they see a sharp increase in riders during that time.

In the meantime, the system will go back to free transfers beginning October 1st. They had been charging 25 cents for a transfer but after examining the cost of printing the tickets versus the revenue brought in, it was determined it actually cost the department more to charge the 25 cent transfer fee.

The transfers will be free again starting October 1st for a trial period. Free bus rides should be available by the end of the year if it is approved by the City Commission.
