Late Evening Fire Destroys Home Off Ireland Road.
A fire late Wednesday has destroyed a doublewide mobile home near the Bartow County line off East Hermitage Road.
According to Rome Fire Department Battalion Chief Troy Brock, the structure was completely involved when firefighters arrived.
Brock said the area was not very easy to get to. We agree, as we traveled several miles down East Hermitage Road and took a left on a gravel and dirt road, we lucked up and were told by a couple of kids that fire trucks had just passed. A mile or so and several hundred deep potholes later, the burning structure was on the left.
Neighbors told us the road was a county maintained road… We will be checking on that.
Luckily, no one was injured in the fire. According to officials and neighbors, the home was vacant at the time.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time and is currently under investigation.
