Rich Approved By City Commission.
The Rome City Commission approved Sammy Rich as Rome’s new assistant City Manager Monday.
Rich, chosen last week by City Manager John Bennett, was unanimously approved by the commission. In the words of Commissioner Norman Skidmore while voting, I vote “an enthusiastic yes”. Rich will fill the position being vacated by retiring Assistant City Manager Jim Dixon and should start sometime during the first of December.
In other City business, John Bennett received high marks for his performance this past year in addition to a 4 percent raise. Bennett’s salary will rise to 132,317.54 from 127,228.40. Bennett has been in his current position since 1984.
Bennett also informed the Commissioners that he intends to restructure some positions involving public works, engineering and Water. Kirk Milam would move into an oversight position of all three and Assistant Public Works Director Jamie McCord would fill the Director position vacated by Milam at Public Works. Bennett says he will seek approval for these changes near the end of the year.
