Wooping Cranes Make Pit Stop Sunday.

A flock of 18 whooping crane chicks being led south by ultra light aircraft made it to a site between Rome and Calhoun on the Oostanaula River Sunday.

The cranes flew a distance of 73.4 miles from the Hiawassee National Wildlife Refuge in Meigsa County Tennessee to the site in Gordon County Sunday.

They are now almost 800 miles in their first flight south from Wisconsin to Florida.
