Dixon Attends Last Commission Meeting As Assistant City Manager.
In 22 years as Rome City manager, John Bennett has known only one Assistant City manager and that is Jim Dixon. After Monday’s City Commission meeting, it is time for Bennett to get to know another one.
Monday’s regular meeting of the Commission was the last for Dixon who is retiring after 22 years with the city.
Dixon’s replacement, Sammy Rich, who was the Assistant County manager until he accepted the City Job said “we are all big cheerleaders of this community because we have such a great quality of life here… Jim has had a hand in almost all of the things that contribute to that”.
Bennett said Dixon has done a great job as assistant City Manager and has been an asset to the City of Rome for many years and will be missed.
Bennett added that he feels the City is lucky to have been able to replace Dixon with such a qualified person as Rich.
Dixon says in retirement, he hopes to be able to spend more time on the water. Rich said jokingly that he will be calling Jim regularly for advice. Bennett added; don’t look for him to keep the same phone number.
