Bad Weather Keeps Labor Secretary From Chamber’s Annual Meeting.

Hundreds gathered at the Forum Thursday night for the annual Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce annual meeting.

Outgoing Chairman Willis Potts said he has had the pleasure of serving as chairman for three separate Chamber’s of commerce and said, this by far is the best he has ever been involved with.

Potts also congratulated the community on the passage of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax this past November. Potts said, “When it came time to vote, the community proved to be enthusiastic about our future and generations to come are going to benefit from it”.

Incoming Chairman elect Randy Quick named the Ambassador of the year and the small business of the year. Chick Harvey was selected as the Ambassador of the year and Printworks was honored with the small business of the year award.

The night also served as the ceremonial passing of the gavel of the Chamber’s Chairman, Willis Potts passed the gavel to incoming chairwoman Evie McNeice. Technically, according to the bylaws, McNeice became Chairwoman at midnight on December 31st.

US Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao was scheduled to speak to the gathering, but due to icy weather in Washington, she was unable to get a flight out. Jim Shaffer with the Department of Labor stood in for Chao, who Shaffer said, sent her regrets that she was unable to attend.
