Bank Robbery Suspect Caught!

By RomeNewswire • on February 8, 2007

A Polk County man is in jail in connections with the robbery of the Shannon Greater Rome bank.

Sources indicate that William Charles Rutledge got money from both tellers who were on duty just before 10 am Thursday morning.

Rutledge apparently headed south toward Rome, then showed up on the Kingston Hwy heading into Bartow County. Apparently a listener of our sister radio stations WRGA & 95.3 FM, heard about the robbery when the station interrupted regular programming with the news of the hold-up. The citizen then called 911 and reported the vehicle’s location to police.

The suspect apparently jumped out of his car in the area of old Wade Rd in Bartow County when he spotted police.

Rutledge was captured by Police just before 2pm Thursday.

Police say Rutledge is also a suspect in the robbery of a Cedartown bank nearly two weeks ago.
