Fires Destroy Homes On Maple Road, Roseway Circle.

By RomeNewswire • on March 21, 2007

Two large fires made for a long night for Rome/Floyd Firefighters Wednesday morning as they battled two back to back unrelated fires.

According to Battalion Chief Troy Brock with the Rome Fire Department, the first call came in about 1am to a duplex fire on Roseway Circle in North Rome. Brock says the back half of the home was heavily involved when the first units arrived on the scene.  The duplex housed 9 people and according to officials, the Red Cross was called to the scene to assist those who were displaced.

As firefighters were finishing up operations in North Rome, a call came in just after 3am about a fire on the Maple Road in Lindale. Brock says the home in Lindale had visible flames from both the 1st and 2nd story when the first engine company arrived on the scene.

The Maple Road blaze required 8 units from the department and nearly two and a half hours to get under control. According to Brock, the Lindale home was an older mill house and the wood construction of the home made the firefighting efforts difficult.

Two firefighters were treated by Emergency medical personnel for smoke inhalation at the scene. Brock said after about 30 minutes of attacking the fire from the inside, firefighters pulled back and began defensive operations, basically squirting water from the outside into the home because the home was burning so hot.

The home was almost completely destroyed, and fire personnel were on the scene well into the morning.
