07 Could Be The last For Tour de GA Without State Help, Title Sponsor.
According to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, this years Tour de Georgia could be the last if the race does not get 1 million dollars from the State. Organizers say however that even if the race does get the help it is asking for from the general assembly, the race could fold before next year if it does not find a title sponsor.
Chris Aronhalt, Managing partner of race organizer Medalist sports says this year’s race will go on either way. Aronhalt told the AJC, whether we return for a sixth year is another question.
It looked as if the State of Georgia was going to fill the funding gap until last week when State Senators yanked the nearly 1 million dollars that was to be appropriated for the event as a result of an ongoing budget battle.
The race will roll through the State beginning April 16th.
