Developer Has Plans For Hotel At Duck Pond Site.

We have known for months that there are plans for the Burwell creek area along Riverside Parkway. The plans call for channeling Burwell creek and running it down a concrete culvert to make way for a commercial development. All of this is of course subject to approval from the Environmental Protection Agency, the State Environmental Protection Division and the Army corps of Engineers due to its potential environmental impact.

What we have not heard is there are plans that exist for the development of the intersection at Riverside Parkway and Turner McCall Boulevard in the current location of the duck pond.

According to our sources, the developer would like to develop the current pond site for the location of a upscale Hotel. Our sources tell us that the plans for the site do exist but are very preliminary at this point.

The City of Rome owns the pond site. We have a call into City manager John Bennett but have not yet received a call back (the city is closed Friday for an extended Easter weekend).
