Leaky Roof Causes Salmonella In Peanut Butter, Suit Continues In Rome.
People across the country who consumed tainted peanut butter and became sick from Salmonella now know what may have caused the outbreak. Officials with ConAgra foods have completed their investigation and now believe that moisture from a leaky roof and a faulty sprinkler helped salmonella bacteria grow and contaminate peanut butter at its Georgia plant last year, sickening more than 400 people.
Some of those sickened filed suit in Rome in early march in a nationwide class action lawsuit against ConAgra, Inc., for manufacturing and selling peanut butter contaminated with Salmonella.
Consumer safety and health is our top priority, ConAgra spokeswoman Stephanie Childs said. “We plan to do our best to regain consumer trust once Peter Pan returns to stores.”
