Redmond Parent Company Wins Award.

Redmond Regional Medical Center’s parent company, HCA, was honored with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) Cheers Award for the fourth quarter of 2006 by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. 

HCA’s accomplishments in medication safety during 2006 would not have been realized without facility support and leadership.  As an organization, HCA facilities, including Redmond, averted over 2 million potential medication errors in 2005 by their dedication to the patients they serve on a daily basis.  ISMP also recognized Redmond Regional Medical Center with an individual award acknowledgement.  “It is a great privilege to be awarded this award for our commitment to providing safe, effective, efficient and satisfying healthcare to our patients” said Brenda M. Waltz, FACHE, CEO of Redmond. 

HCA takes pride in their facilities’ exemplary commitment to quality patient care.  “It is a privilege to work at a hospital and with colleagues who are extraordinarily dedicated to HCA’s mission of providing safe, effective, efficient, compassionate and satisfying healthcare” stated Waltz. 

Redmond and other HCA facilities contribute this acknowledgement to their associates and the eMAR, electronic Medication Administration Record, system.  eMar was brought to Redmond several years ago and, with it, came a safer way for patients to receive their medications.  The system performs a double check to make sure that only the medications ordered by a patient’s physician are given to the right person, through the right route at the appropriate time.   eMAR also ensures that the proper medication and the proper dose is given to the patients. 

Redmond and HCA strive to provide their patients with the highest level of medication safety, which has now been nationally recognized by the ISMP Cheers Award.  For Redmond, it is another way the hospital is using technology to make the patient the “Center of Attention”.
