Downtown parking Goes Green.

By RomeNewswire • on May 1, 2007

(DDA Press release) The City of Rome has added a new vehicle to its fleet and this new ride is certain to turn heads downtown.  The Downtown Development Department is proud to roll out the GEM eL, a two passenger electric vehicle from Global Electric Motor Cars.

The eL has been assigned to the Downtown Parking Department and will be used during inclement weather and to transport equipment and supplies during downtown events.

About the GEM eL:  www.gemcar.com/models
GEM vehicles are classified as low-speed vehicles, or neighborhood electric vehicles, and are street legal on public roads posted at 35 mph or less.  With a top speed of 25 mph, GEM vehicles have a range of up to 30 miles on a charge and are great for traveling around neighborhoods, city centers or job sites.  GEM vehicles are battery-electric, operate on a 72-volt battery system and plug into a standard 110-volt outlet.
From its superior maneuverability to its versatility, the GEM eL quietly functions in nearly any work environment, including indoors because it emits no tailpipe emissions.  It features a 70″x48″ flat bed with a 700 pound cargo capacity.

For more information regarding the GEM eL, contact Ann Arnold, Downtown Development Director: 706/236-4520.
