HPC Green-Lights Sidewalk Cafes.

Rome’s Historic Preservation Commission has given the green light to a proposed sidewalk café ordinance that was requested by the Hospitality Association of Rome.

The city’s Alcohol Control Commission will now consider the ordinance and earlier this week, city manager John Bennett suggested that officials consider an amendment to the ordinance that would not permit customers to simply order up alcohol outside, unless it is accompanied by food.  The HPC action Wednesday would permit A-frame advertising or menu boards to sit out on the sidewalk, so long as they are within the boundaries of the café itself.
