Animal Control Takes 52 Dogs From Home.
Floyd County Animal control officers along with officers from the Floyd County Police department served a search warrant on a home off Hwy 140 near the Bartow County line Wednesday afternoon. According to Keelan Freeman with Floyd County Animal Control, they seized 52 dogs from the home, many of them in poor health.
RomeNewswire.com went along with officers as they served the search warrant. Dead rats littered the property, many looking as if they had been there for some time.
Freeman says, several canine carcasses were on the property as well. Apparently the dog’s owner, Bryan Johnson, who told investigators that he was a teacher in Polk County, would simply toss the dogs off the side of the driveway when they died.
Johnson has been charged with 52 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Johnson told WSB TV Channel 2 as he was being arrested, “I was just trying to help them”.
Many of the dogs seized will be available for adoption. Freeman says a Vet will be checking the animal’s health and many of the dogs would make good pets. You can call the Floyd County Animal Control for more information at 706-236-4545.

My wife and I know Bryan and KNOW FOR A FACT that he rescued, fed and cared for a number of animals that needed his help. Maybe the numbers overwhelmed him, but he WOULD NOT neglect a animal. This is one of the kinder spirited people you’d ever meet.
Bryan has boarded our guys before when we needed help for a couple of weeks. That’s a task that we DO NOT entrust to just anyone. Like many news stories, this one tells only bits and pieces.
The dogs in the video look pretty healthy and lively to me, heck I have seen poor dogs tied up on a short lease noway to get out of the sun and no water bowl to be seen anywhere in some of the more higher class neiborhood areas in Rome, these dogs on the video all have pens and tarps hanging to shield the sun off them, so what if dead rats were laying around the only good rat is a dead one…..no malnourshised dog could have climbed that fence the way that one pup did…at least he was giving the dogs homes probably when no one else would….

He was trying to help these animals how, exactly? I can’t imagine how malnourishing animals and merely tossing them aside after they die qualifies as “help.”
