City Enacts Water Rate Increase, Sidewalk Cafe Still On Track.

By RomeNewswire • on June 5, 2007

The Rome City Commission unanimously approved a proposed increase in water and sewer rates last night.  The 6% water hike and 15% sewer increase will go into effect July 1st.

The commission also issued a split decision on rezoning for Curtis Packing in south Rome.  A parcel used by the meat packer was rezoned for light industrial use, however an adjacent, unoccupied parcel was maintained for residential use.

A sidewalk café ordinance was put on first reading by the Rome city commission Monday night in spite of several issues that may need tweaking before a public hearing is held June 18th.

The city of Rome will not take a position on Alabama Power’s request to reduce flows in the Coosa River below Weiss Dam.
