Police Make Gang Related Arrest On Maple Street.
A Rome teenager was arrested Saturday and remained in jail Tuesday morning after being accused of participating in gang related activity.
According to jail reports, 17 year old Demarcus Cantrell Mitchell of a Maple Street address, was arrested after police spotted his vehicle near the intersection of Crane Street and East 14th Street with a stolen license plate and an incorrect tag sticker affixed to it.
In a warrant, Mitchell is also accused of striking a man about the head and face along with six other individuals who are all alleged to be members of a known street gang.
Mitchell is charged with felony participating in street gang activity, felony theft by receiving stolen property, misdemeanor battery, misdemeanor removing or affixing a license plate with the intent to conceal, misdemeanor driving while unlicensed and misdemeanor no proof of insurance.
This arrest follows two other gang related arrests Sunday morning when members of the Sur 13 gang were arrested for attempting to rob a man. Jail reports did not indicate which gang Mitchell is accused of being part of.
It is not clear if the other six men alleged to be gang members will be charged.
Mitchell remained in the Floyd County jail with bail set at $6,050.
