911 Logs Several Bear Sightings Over Weekend, Spotted In Bartow Monday Morning.

Floyd County 911 received several calls over the weekend concerning sightings of a small black bear.

All of the sightings were in the Eastern portion of the county near Morrison Campground road and Kingston Road. Callers said they spotted the bear, which according to experts is most likely, a small male black bear.

Apparently this time of year small males leave their mother and wander in search of their own territory. Some accounts are that bears can wander as much as several hundred miles in their search.

DNR officials in Bartow County also logged sightings of a bear in the western area of Bartow County early Monday morning. A Cartersville businessman, Dale Yarborough says he saw the bear walking along Center Road toward a subdivision that backs up to the road.

Officials are speculating, due to the proximity of the sightings, that this could be the same bear being spotted as it travels looking for food.
