Former Cedartown Officer Has Sentencing Postponed Again.
A Former Cedartown Police officer was to find out his fate Wednesday but now will have to wait until at least Aug 10 to hear his sentence.
This is the second time former officer Douglas Damiano has had his sentencing postponed since pleading guilty in Federal District court in Rome last March to depriving Hispanic motorists of their Civil rights by stealing money from them during traffic stops in 2003 and 2004.
According to a spokesman with the Department of Justice, one of Damiano’s attorneys had a family matter that had to be taken care of.
The spokesman confirmed that the attorney’s child had apparently been bitten by a dog.
Damiano was originally set to find out his sentence in mid June but had it postponed after his wife nearly fainted in her wheel chair before the proceeding began on June 14th.
Damiano could face up to five years behind bars and 300 thousand dollars in fines.
