Sheriff’s Office Releases Statment Concerning Weekend Incident.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s office has investigated a weekend incident involving a Deputy at Rome’s Harbin Clinic and has released the following statement:
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office concluded an internal affairs review into an incident involving Lt. Mark Blanton, Administrative Supervisor. Lt. Blanton had been involved in a verbal altercation with staff members at The Harbin Clinic regarding a dispute over an insurance issue. The Rome Police Department were called and made a report of the incident.
After the conclusion of the investigation by Capt. Bobby Pearson, it has been confirmed the incident did occur and Lt. Blanton was found to be in violation of Floyd County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedures. Accordingly, He has been given an official reprimand, as determined by progressive discipline procedures used by the Sheriff’s Office.
Mark is a 23 year veteran of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, having served as a Lieutenant for the past 17 years. To my knowledge, he has never received any type of disciplinary warning in his career. He is currently serving as the Supervisor of Administration and will continue in that capacity. “Mark knows and fully accepts that his behavior was inappropriate as were his comments about being a law enforcement officer.”
“This is a small bump in the road on an otherwise quiet and dedicated career.” “Mark realizes we are held to a higher standard and this incident is certainly not the norm for him and his reputation is that of a good officer.” “He simply made a mistake and the most important thing to me is when an employee recognizes it and learns from it in a positive way”
