Bomb Squad At Scene Of Sunday’s Fatal Shooting
Floyd County police called in the bomb squad late Monday evening to the scene of Sunday’s fatal shooting on Wilkerson Road in West Rome.
Authorities confiscated 10 weapons and several hundred rounds of ammunition in
addition to what one officer called an item of interest. RomeNewswire has learned that this item of interest was an triggering device that could be used on an IED or Improvised explosive device. Police have confirmed that no actual explosives were found.
Sgt. Conway with Floyd County Police said he spotted the item while sorting through photo’s taken from the scene. He said, “we felt like we needed to remove the item from the home”.
Phyllis Hayes Avery was shot and is in critical condition and Charles Jeffrey Christian was killed when John Clayton Corley went on a shooting rampage outside of his West Rome home.
