New 911 Computer System Fails, Operators Now Tracking Calls Manually

Continuous problems at Rome/Floyd 911 with their new state of the art computer aided dispatch system have caused officials to shut the system down and go to call taking manually with paper logs.

According to our sources, the system dropped an ambulance call Thursday and caused a response delay.

Problems have been on going since the system was first installed and dispatchers have been struggling to make the system work properly.

IPC, the company that installed the new equipment a few months ago will send a technician to Rome Friday. Sources say he will be arriving sometime Friday afternoon.

Sources say, this system has never worked correctly since it was installed. The good news is that 911 has yet to sign off on the equipment which means IPC still owns it and is still responsible for it.

If the problems continue, 911 could look for a new system for their center and replace the IPC product.

Citizens should not be concerned however, all calls are being tracked manually on their paper log system.
