Fallen Tree Snaps Power Pole, Knocks Out Power To Dozens

By RomeNewswire • on September 18, 2007

Residents on Flannery Street near the intersection of East 19th Street were startled out of bed early Tuesday morning when a large tree suddenly fell across the road striking the power lines and breaking a power pole in half.

Police and fire officials were called to the scene around 4:50am Tuesday to find Flannery Street completely blocked by the tree and live power lines stretched across East 19th Street.

Georgia Power was called to the scene to replace the power pole and workers from the city of Rome had to remove the tree with the assistance of a backhoe.

Several residents were without power in the immediate area. Georgia power officials estimated it would take several hours to replace the broken pole and restore power to customers.
