Sheriff Offers Reward For Park Vandals
Floyd County Sheriff Tim Burkhalter is announcing that a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of person(s) who may be responsible for Gang Vandalism and Tagging at Ridge Ferry Park on Riverside Parkway in downtown Rome over the last several months.
“A growing number of Floyd County Citizens have expressed concern to me and The Floyd County Commission about gang involvement becoming an issue in some areas of our community.” Chief Shiflett, Chief Smith and I have had conversations about this issue and how we can be proactive in addressing this before they catch a foothold in our county.
“I think offering a reward is one way to show that these parks and neighborhoods belong to our families and our kids and we won’t tolerate this here.” “Ridge Ferry Park has had a large number of swastikas painted and placed at various locations around the park and such gang insignia are offensive to members of our community.’
“I have instructed our gang coordinator, Sgt. James Womack, to photograph these locations and to follow up on any information he may receive about this matter. The reward of $1,000.00 is from private funds donated for our community welfare and we feel like this is a worthy expense to address a community concern.”
