Chamber Names Seckman Economic Development Director

Heather Lathbury Seckman, has been promoted to Director of Economic Development at the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce by Albert M. Hodge, Jr., Chamber President and CEO. In this position, Seckman will be responsible for assisting existing industries with expansions as well as all of the marketing of Rome and Floyd County to primary employers on behalf of the City of Rome, Floyd County, Development Authority of Floyd County, Rome-Floyd County Development Authority and the Gordon-Floyd Development Authority.

“Heather Seckman has earned this promotion through her diligent efforts in our Economic Development division,” said Hodge. “She has been involved in every aspect of the process during her six years at the Chamber. We look forward to excellent results with her leadership.”

Seckman began her Chamber career in 2002 as the Economic Development Assistant and was later promoted to Economic Development Coordinator. She is a graduate of Berry College with a Bachelor’s Degree in both Business and Communications. Formerly, she was the director of the Coosa River Basin Initiative, a non-profit environmental organization.

During her Chamber experience, Seckman has assisted existing industries such as Kellogg, Neaton Rome, Scott Logistics, Steel King Industries, VTI, and U.S. Biofuels and new companies including Molecular Genetic Resources and World Class Plastics. Additionally, she has helped in assisting with development authorities’ efforts.

I look forward to working with our community leaders in implementing the goals identified in the Rome-Floyd 20/20 Part II (an economic and community development strategic plan), working with our existing employers in their expansion efforts and marketing Rome and Floyd County to potential primary employers”, said Seckman.

Seckman, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, moved to Rome in 1981 where she continues to reside with her three children.
