Cherokee County Wildfire Burns 250+ Acres
More than 250 acres along the Cherokee County – Polk County line have been scorched by a wildfire of undetermined origin.
According to an Alabama Forestry Commission news release, the fire, first reported just after 2:00 Sunday afternoon was off Cherokee County Road 8 at the Georgia/Alabama state line.
On Sunday, the fire directly threatened one occupied structure and firefighters asked one property owner to evacuate, but he refused.
The rugged terrain along ridge tops in the area hampered efforts to bring the fire under control in a light rain Monday.
