Broad Street Store Owner Gets “Taken For A Ride” By Alleged Shoplifters

A Broad Street shop owner got more than he expected when he confronted two females after they allegedly shoplifted some items from his store.

Gordon Lee, owner of Legends on Broad told police the two females shoplifted items and attempted to leave when he stood in front of their vehicle. Lee and witnesses say that the females fled the scene and Lee jumped on the hood of the vehicle. The suspects carried Lee right on 3rd Avenue and then left, traveling the wrong way on a one way street on Tribune. Lee jumped from the vehicle when the car reached 2nd Avenue.

Rome Police officer Jon Sisson arrested the two girls after Officer Josh Kerce spotted the two on Turner McCall Blvd. across from Floyd Medical.

The two have been identified as 21 year old Linda Hughes also known as Rose and 27 year old Stefanie Childers.

Quint Abernathy was in Lee’s store when the two left with the items. He says he followed Lee outside and saw him being carried away on the hood of the car. Abernathy said he thought “That’s something you don’t see everyday”.

Hughes has been charged with Aggravated assault and shoplifting. Childers has been charged with party to a crime of shoplifting.
