Man Riding Horse Struck, Killed By Vehicle On Rockmart Highway

An accident just before 7pm on Rockmart Highway near the Silver Creek Mini Mart has taken the life of a Canadian resident and his horse. The man has been identified as 62 year old Gary Guglick of Canada.
According to witnesses the man was riding the horse in the middle of the roadway when it was struck by an SUV pulling a trailer with a Jeep on it. The collision dumped the Jeep causing it to overturn and land in a ditch.
Officials say the man suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Floyd Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The horse was critically injured after it was apparently run over by the vehicle’s trailer and had to be put down at the scene by police.
It is not clear why the man was in the middle of the road but police say they found a saddle bag in the road with suspected alcohol in it.
Police say the driver of the SUV will not be cited in the accident.
Traffic on Rockmart highway was blocked for over an hour and a half.
