Berry’s Wildlife Mgt Area And Refuge To Restrict Recreational Use During Deer Hunt
Recreational use of the Berry College Wildlife Management Area and Refuge will be restricted during a managed firearms deer hunt scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 28, through Saturday, Dec. 1. During this period, only permitted hunters will be allowed in the Wildlife Management Area; all other activity is prohibited. This includes jogging, bicycling, horseback riding and other recreational activities. Registration for this hunt is closed.
The Viking Trail, a three-mile paved trail for walking, running, cycling and rollerblading, will remain open during the hunt. This trail is open during daylight hours and runs from Ladd Center on the main campus to the entrance to the mountain campus.
Campus visitors should remember that all interior gated roads and/or trails leading from the main or mountain campuses into the Wildlife Management Area will take them into the hunting areas. These areas will be posted with warning signs by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. It is very important that residents and visitors alike pay close attention to the hunting dates and stay clear of the hunting areas.
The main campus and the mountain campus are protected by a buffer zone called the Berry College Refuge. Hunters are not allowed inside the refuge area. No weapon of any type is allowed in the refuge area. Hunters may not access the Wildlife Management Area from campus.
