Housing Starts Down Significantly

With figures from the month of December not expected the change the bottom line, evidence of the slowdown in housing construction is available in both Rome and Floyd County. Through November, 48 single family housing starts were authorized in the city of Rome. That compares to 95 through the same period of time last year.

In unincorporated Floyd County, the numbers were down, but not as dramatically. Single family homes started out in the county totaled 217, down from 236.

The number of multi family units were also down in both the city and county with only 22 units out in the county compared to 86 through November last year. In the city, the number of multi family units dropped from 44 last year to 27 in 2007.
