Attic Fire at 201 East Main Street

Firefighters responded to a fire at 201 East Main Street, after a resident noticed smoke coming from the attic and vents.
“We had a man who came to work on the stove,” said 22-year-old resident Daniel Shepard, who was home alone when the fire started. “He’s the one who pointed it out. I then called my parents.”
Steve Wilson, the battalion chief on duty, said that the fire, that started around 12:30 p.m., had started in the attic, and that the cause was unknown.
“It’s hard to tell with these old houses,” Wilson said. “There are so many voids in these old buildings.”
Dean Oswalt of the fire department said that there was light fire damage, and that they were currently working to pull on the ceilings down to get into the attic to check for the cause of the fire and to make sure that it was completely out.
