Rome Requests To Be Removed From Level 4 Water Restrictions, Says We Have Plenty Of Water
Members of Rome’s City Government met with State lawmakers Thursday morning in hope’s of informing those representatives of the city’s stance on several major issues. One of the issues is the GREAT tax plan being pushed by Speaker of the House Glen Richardson. Tom Gehl, with the Georgia Municipal Association says their group is concerned with keeping local money under local control.
City manager John Bennett told the group there are water needs as well such as more water monitoring and state funded reservoirs.
Bennett told the group that Rome has requested to be removed from the severe drought restrictions because the city is being asked to do more than they should. He said, on our worst flow day, 450 million gallons of water flows past Rome and as a County, our consumptive use is only about 5 million gallons per day. Bennett added that areas such as Chattanooga Tennessee and Alabama are advertising to businesses to come to their area because they have plenty of water. He says, a lot of the water Alabama is touting is water that flows through Rome.
