Trees Down Power Lines All Over County, Ga Power Slow To Respond

By RomeNewswire • on January 30, 2008

A night of high winds has kept repair crews from Georgia power busy.

According to our affiliate, WSB TV, Channel 2, The hardest hit area was Sandy Springs in the metro.

With power crews tied up in the metro area, locations in Rome and Floyd County were apparently put on the back burner.

Several power lines were downed by trees in Floyd County as a result of the gusting winds. One on Virgina Circle and another on Old Wax Road Road in Southeastern Floyd County occurred before midnight on Tuesday and according to Rome/Floyd 911, they were still down and live until after 7am Wednesday.

More lines were down on Beverly Drive in West Rome due to a massive house fire that occurred overnight. Those lines were still live and in the roadway until midmorning.

Volunteers from Emergency management were called in to assist the fire department and secure the scenes where the live wires were on the ground. EMS Director Scotty Hancock said EMA personnel responded just after midnight to remove trees from across roads and securing scenes where live wires had fallen.

Sources tell RomeNewswire that as far as they can tell, Georgia Power did not respond to any of the fallen wire calls in Floyd County from 11pm Tuesday until midmorning Wednesday.
