Indra Thomas To Perform With Rome Symphony Orchestra
The Rome Symphony Orchestra is proud to present Ms. Indra Thomas in concert on February 9, 2008. Ms. Thomas is a 1993 graduate of Shorter College, having received her Bachelors of Music in Voice Performance. While still in her teens, she sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” in the funeral scene of the Academy Award-winning film Driving Miss Daisy. Indra made her professional debut in the Verdi Requiem in Carnegie Hall with the New York Choral Society and currently tours internationally.
Indra performed with many of the Rome churches, theatre companies and schools while she was living in Rome. Ms. Thomas is known for the diversity of her repertoire; ranging from opera to American contemporary composers and Spirituals. She performed the title role in Verdi’s “Aida” with the Atlanta Opera and to rave reviews by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She returns to perform with the Rome Symphony Orchestra for the first time. The repertoire for the evening includes selections from Verdi’s “Aida”, Puccini’s “Tosca” and Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”. The concert will also include five Gershwin pieces, including “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess, “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “I Got Rhythm”. The Orchestra will also play several orchestra selections from Verdi and Gershwin. The evening ends with Spirituals arranged by Hall Johnson.
Tickets for the February 9 concert are on sale at Merry Bee Gallery, The Music Room, Kroger, RACA, the Rome Visitor Center and the RSO business office. Advance purchase tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $10 for students. Tickets purchased at the door on the evening of the concert are $ 35 for adults, $ 30 for seniors and $ 15 for students.
