Hight Homes Property Will Not Be Razed Anytime Soon

It appears the Hight Homes public housing complex at the intersection of North 5th Avenue and Turner McCall Boulevard will not fall to the wrecking ball anytime soon.

The Housing Authority of Northwest Georgia has decided not to make a recommendation to its board of directors concerning the proposed redevelopment of the area by a Rome developer.

Members of the authority met with Sandra Hudson, director of the housing authority and the proposed developers, R.H. Ledbetter Properties Wednesday.

Hight homes was built in the early 1940’s and the authority has said renovations to the property would be too costly.

Ledbetter properties submitted the only proposal for the property. They are proposing a land/cash swap for the Hight homes property.

There is no word what the next step will be or if the authority will solicit additional proposals.
