Development Authority Denies Tax Abatement For Retail Development
A request for a long term tax abatement for a possible grocery store and retail shops on the site on the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church off Hwy 293 east of Rome were rejected by the Rome Floyd Development Authority Tuesday morning.
The authority listened to a developer who could not provide enough hard data about well paying permanent jobs in the project to warrant the tax incentive for the project.
The Development Authority has not historically approved tax abatements for retail projects in the past and there may have been some concern about setting a precedent in that area as well this morning.
