Tornado Victims Can Apply For FEMA Assistance

Floyd County was one of seven counties added to the Presidential Disaster Declaration Saturday, which now makes individual effected by the tornado on Old Wax Road eligible for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“We only had one insured resident affected by the storm, but even the insured individuals will benefit from this declaration,” said Scotty Hancock, Floyd EMA Director. “We are very pleased with the expedition of this declaration and appreciate the Governor’s help in ensuring this happen.”
Residents and business owners in Floyd County who sustained losses can begin applying for assistance by registering online at http://www.fema.gov/ or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (local time) Monday through Sunday.
Residents must register online or via phone to receive a registration number. Assistance cannot be granted without the registration number.
