Suspect Apprehended After Assaulting Floyd Co. Police Officer

An unidentified suspect was apprehended after a large police manhunt Saturday Night after he assaulted a Floyd County Police Officer.
According to Rome Police, the incident around 10:35 PM started when a male and female suspects caused an unknown type of disturbance at Wal-mart and fled that area, only to end up at the Shell Gas Station at US Highway 411 and Mathis Rd.
According to witnesses there, the male entered the store out of breath and bought a pack of cigarettes. As the two began to leave, a Floyd County Police Officer stopped the male and began speaking with them. The suspects appeared nervous and reluctant speaking with the officers. As the officer went to search the male, he turned around hitting the officer in the face and knocking both to the ground. A struggle ensued until the male left heading south into the woods behind the store with the officer close behind. The officer did deploy his taser, but it missed it mark.
The injured officer who was bleeding from the face returned and apprehended the female who had been ushered into the store by witnesses in the parking lot before she too escaped.

As local law enforcement arrived, a perimeter was set up along Mathis and Hine Roads and the Rome Police’s K-9 was requested. The k-9 was able to track the suspect for a distance but the suspect was not initially found. A secondary search though uncovered the suspect hiding in the woods still near the store.
While the charges beyond assault on a police officer were unknown, the male and female will both be charged
