Women Gather to Learn About The Outdoors

By RNW Reporter Hayden Jennings
Though dreary weather settled over Floyd County this weekend, a group of women did not let it get in their way as they met for thier annual Women In The Outdoors event at the Floyd County Wildlife Club.
The group, a total of 46 women, initially met on Friday to camp and learn about the Outdoors including wilderness survival and different sports such as firearms, fishing, and turkey hunting. Participants even showed up from as far away as Memphis, TN and Savannah, GA
Though rain caused the women to have a “Slumber Party” Friday Night, they were able to camp Saturday Night. The women then had numerous events on Saturday including Pistol and Shotgun Shooting, Archery, and Fly Fishing. Also, 7 lucky women were able to go on a guided turkey hunt. According to participants, many more wanted to go but only 7 guides volunteered. While no turkeys were shot, a few were spotted and tracked.

The event was sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Floyd County Wildlife Association who provided the location. This event is annual but the Coosa Valley Chapter of the Women In The Outdoors participates in many other events. The group is open for women age 14 and up.
