A nice and sunny Sunday ended with several residences without power and three acres of land scorched in the area of US Highway 411 at Nichols Rd.
Rome Fire Dept. Engine 2 was dispatched to the area of US Hwy. 411 at Nichols Rd. in reference to a brush fire caused by Georgia Power around 5:30 PM Sunday Evening. According to Captain Tomy Townsell with Rome Fire Engine Company 2, a live power line fell as Georgia Power Representives worked just north of the highway, sparking dry brush. The fire which was fanned by winds and relativey dry brush, prompted a request for Georgia Forestry, though they were cancelled while en route after a local citizen assisted with plowing a break around the Fire.
According to Capt. Townsell, the fire consumed around 3 acres of woods and fields. Power was to be restored by GA power crews when the fire was contained.
