Coosa Valley Gets Jobs Grant
A $250,000 workforce development grant has been awarded to the Coosa Valley Regional Development Center. The ten county region has lost over 6300 jobs in the past year, many of them in industries related to the housing market.
State Rep. Barbara Reece said “First, I want to express my appreciation to the labor department for its earlier response to the layoff at Mount Vernon Mills,… I especially want to thank Commissioner Thurmond for recognizing early-on the widespread employment problems in Northwest Georgia and moving quickly to secure funding to help our people who are at an employment crossroad.”
Services provided by the labor department include job search workshops, career counseling, and resource centers in each office. Some job seekers may also be eligible for occupational/skills training, on-the-job training, General Education Development (GED) preparation and testing, and supportive services such as child-care assistance, transportation assistance and meals while enrolled in full-time training.
