Midwest Earthquake Felt Throughout North Georgia

An early morning earthquake left people baffled and amazed after they found that it was located in the Midwest Friday Morning.
The quake, a 5.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale, was centered six miles from West Salem, Illinois and 66 miles from Evansville, Indiana and was felt in such distant cities as Chicago, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, and Des Moines though no significant damage or injuries were reported.
The quake occurred at 4:37 AM, but at around 5:00 AM, Shaking was felt throughout North Georgia. According to our affiliate WSB Channel 2 Action News, calls and e-mails flooded their news room from places including Buford, Marietta, Woodstock, Young Harris and Buckhead in reference to feeling the quake. It is unclear though if anyone felt it in the Rome Area.
Readers may remember the 2003 earthquake, 4.6 in Magnitude and centered near Ft. Payne, AL. That quake was extensively felt in Rome and was reportedly felt in 11 Eastern states all the way to Southern Indiana.
