Clerk Finds Suspected Hand Grenade In Garbage Can, Police Say Device Was Live Grenade

According to Floyd County Police, a clerk at the Golden Gallon on the Alabama highway found what she suspected to be a hand grenade this morning in a garbage can.

The bomb squad was called in and traffic in the area was rerouted for a while until the device was removed and safely detonated.

According to Floyd County Police Captain Tom Ewing with the bomb squad, the device was indeed a live hand grenade and officials are investigating the incident.

Ewing said it is important not to pick up any suspicious items you find, Call 911 and the bomb squad will come and make sure it is not a dangerous device.
