Witness: Teen Said He Would “Shoot Up School, Then Kill Himself”… Police Find Columbine Articles At Suspects Home

When the tip came in to Floyd County police, officials with the PD knew it was something to be taken seriously.

A concerned parent had just contacted the police department and told them of some disturbing information she had discovered on an answering machine.

The message was thought to be accidental. The concerned parent told authorities that she believed her son was on the phone with friends and when he hung up, the phone did not disconnect and recorded some of the conversations.

According to police reports, the answering machine recorded statements referring to a shooting at Coosa Middle School as well as that of a female stating that she did not believe they (then she named the juveniles) would carry it out.

Officers spoke to another female juvenile who told them she had overheard several male juveniles talking about their plan to “shoot up the school”. Another juvenile told police the suspect told him the previous week that he was going to carry out the crime. This same witness told police the suspect said he wanted to “reenact Columbine”.

Police went to the home of the suspect and conducted a consent search of the home and found several articles associated with the Columbine shooting that had been printed off of the internet. Police also found additional items that were taken in for evidence. However, at this point, they are not saying what those items are.

Another teen told police that the suspect told her the plan was for he and two other males to “shoot up” the school and then kill themselves afterwards. This juvenile told officers that the suspect had promised to tell them the day before so he/she would not come to school on the day it was to occur. The same witness also stated to police that they were concerned for their safety and the safety of others at the school.

The juvenile that has been arrested is currently at the Youth Detention Center in Rome.
