RACA/DDA To Sponsor Art Walk
The Rome Area Council for the Arts and the City of Rome Downtown Development Authority will sponsor a downtown art walk on Saturday May 10. From 11:00 am until 4:00 pm, Broad Street will be filled with local painters, potters, writers, photographers and even a blacksmith who will be outside selling and demonstrating their art. Local businesses are sponsoring artists to benefit RACA.
Participating artists include painters Cheryl Hodge, James Green, Kristi Kent, Bonnie Cormier, Margaret Ingram, Siri Gundersen Selle, Martha and Bob Gilbert, Nadia K. Brown, Alexandra Egorova, and Kristyn Watters; potters John Johnston, Jeri Jankovsky and Earthworks Pottery (Janda Canalis, Vicki McKenzie, Marcia Austin); photographers from the Rome Photography Club and writers from Rome Area Writers. Uncle John, well-known for his chainsaw carvings, will be on hand. Crafts such as balloon art by Flor Bustos; bows, totes and painted shoes by Virginia Chastain; cake decorating by Sara Williams and basket weaving by Sheila Barron Cox will be featured as well. A special treat will be Marigrace Smith demonstrating blacksmithing and forging. Musicians will be playing, too.
Visit Broad Street on May 10 for a day of art and music! Maps showing locations of artists are available at RACA and at the Downtown Development Office in the Carnegie Building, or you can pick one up from any participating artist/business on the day of the art walk.
