Short Power Outage Plagues East Rome, Downtown Area
By RNW Reporter Hayden Jennings
A short but troublesome blackout left Rome resetting itself late Sunday afternoon.
The outage began shortly after 4:00 PM througout Downtown and East Rome. After around 2 minutes, power began to slowly and sporadically restoring itself throughout the area. It took some places up to 45 to regain power, specifically in the downtown area.
As power began coming back online, it had stayed off just enough time to trip burglar and fire alarms as they reset themselves. Police and Fire units responded to numerous alarm calls during this time. Also, most redlights in the areas were affected including most on Turner McCall Blvd. which were flahing yellow. The biggest problem caused by these lights were at US Hwy. 411 at GA 1 Loop, where traffic was hobbled.
It is yet unclear what caused the outage, though most customer’s power was restored by 5:45 PM.
As of 5:30, most redlights were still on flash and alarms were still going off.
