Oak Hill And The Martha Berry Museum Kick Off Lecture Series
Oak Hill and The Martha Berry Museum kicks off its summer lecture series, “Historic Gardens of the South,” with a 7 p.m. presentation Tuesday, June 10.
The speaker will be James R. Cothran, author of the recently published book Gardens and Historic Plants of the Antebellum South. Admission is free and open to the public. Due to limited seating, advance reservations are advised. Call 706-368-6776 to RSVP.
A native of South Carolina, Cothran is a practicing landscape architect, urban planner, garden historian and author. He holds degrees from Clemson University, The University of Georgia and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at both The University of Georgia and Georgia State University, teaching graduate courses on America’s historic gardens and landscapes. His presentation will focus on Southern garden history and details of his book, which invites plant enthusiasts, gardeners and individuals interested in the history of the South to experience the glorious gardens that flourished in the region from 1820 through 1860.
