Police Rush to Northwest Regional After Disturbance
By RNW Reporter Hayden Jennings
A call of possible shots fired to 911 had law enforcement scrambling to Northwest Regional Hospital early Wednesday morning.
The call came into 911 at 12:23 AM reporting a noise that sounded like gun shots were being heard coming from the area of the Admissions Office. The caller who was in a nearby office stated that when she called Admissions, no one answered the phone.
This had many of the Rome Police Units who had just split into their single-officer units responding with lights and sirens. More noises were heard around a minute later as police were arriving onto the campus. Then, just as police located Admissions, 911 received another call that a patient in the nearby Evaluations Office had become violent and had begun to break windows out, causing the noises that were mistaken for gunfire.
The patient was subdued by the Hospital Police Officers and the many Rome Police Officers that had responded. Rome Police had contacted the GSP and GBI, who will likely investigate the disturbance.
