Fricks Reimbursed By County For Mileage Driven During License Suspension
According to files obtained by RomeNewswire through an open records request, Floyd County Commissioner Garry Fricks was in fact reimbursed by Floyd County for mileage driven during the time his license was suspended.
During the last two years alone, Commissioner Fricks was reimbursed $844.57 for mileage driven in his personal vehicle for out of town County business trips.
In 2008, Fricks was paid mileage for trips to the ACCG annual meeting in Savannah, where according to records he received $323.20 for 640 miles driven. Also in 2008, Fricks traveled to the ACCG Legislative Confrence in Atlanta where he was reimbursed $67.90 for 140 miles driven.
In 2007, Fricks traveled to a Commission board retreat at Red Top Mountain lodge, an ACCG policy Conference in Atlanta and an unspecified trip of 725 miles. In that year he was paid $453.47 for travel in his personal vehicle pertaining to County business.
Fricks has repeatedly told other local media outlets that he was only aware of his license suspension for the last few months. However, RomeNewswire has learned from Susan Sports, Public Information Officer with the Department of Motor vehicles that even if a person had renewed their license in 2001, at that time it would have only been valid for a period of four years. Given that information, Fricks would have needed to renew his license in 2005 at the very latest where he would have discovered that his license was suspended.
RomeNewswire has a call in to the Floyd County Attorney for comment. That phone call has not yet been returned.
RomeNewswire has several open records requests pending in this matter. We will have more information as it becomes available.
