Judge Salmon Explains Why He Is Not Seeking Another Term
(From Judge Salmon) “One of the most personal decisions an individual can make is whether or not to offer for election to public office. In arriving at that decision one is, of course, entitled to consider personal reasons.
To run again has always been my intention. However, due mostly to events over the past several weeks, that intention and my decision on this subject have gone one way and then the other. My decision has been one of indecision. Few outside my family have been aware of this troublesome dilemma. I am not ready to voluntarily leave office. However, neither am I inclined to seek to obligate myself for another four year term.
The final decision has been delayed to keep my options open hoping to reconcile these conflicting desires. In doing so, the process has taken into account nearly everything in between such high sounding ideals as wanting to continue to strive to fairly and efficiently run a courtroom, if re-elected, down to such trivial matters as having to give up my locker in the county’s fitness center if I leave office. Time has run out. In the end, I find that I am unwilling to seek another four year commitment.
I am extremely grateful to the people of Floyd County for their having given me the opportunity to serve these nearly 20 years as one of their superior court judges. It is an honor that I deeply appreciate. I especially appreciate the patience of my family, particularly Sally, who tolerated me in the stress of my indecision. Also, I am very thankful for the support of those who have done me the great favor of serving on our campaign committee over the years.”
